Crawling toward the stars
Hands in the dirt, knees in the dirt
Neck craned skyward pained
Frayed nerves humming with hurt
A howl bellowed into the night
Sounds of the creature seep into the dim
Now the stars are all askew:
Everything spins, the world fixed,
numbness in the knees, the gray grins
Last night I woke
I hadn't eaten in millions of years
But the hunger is bearable
As long as I crawl toward the stars
